1:1 meetings vs. big meetings
When we talk about 1:1 meetings, we talk about a meeting between only 2 people, a manager and an employee, while lots of meeting types are held with more number of participants.
How can we compare 1:1 meetings with big meetings? What are the advantages of 1:1 meetings over big meetings? Is there any advantage? Let’s see.
Monopolization in big meetings.
We’ve all been in meetings that were run weak, where the conversation took place between two or more specific people and the rest of the participants were just watching and had no chance to talk. This is a common occurrence in big meetings. On the other hand, holding 1:1 meetings regularly gives all employees the opportunity to have a direct and transparent conversation with their manager.
Thus, if there is something that the employee is unable to talk about it in the group meeting, a 1:1 meeting provides an opportunity to discuss the issue directly with the manager.
Lack of focus in big meetings
Another issue that may arise in group meetings is lack of focus. Due to the more participants in big meetings, meetings may deviate from the main topic, and the discussion may be shifted to another subject. 1:1 meetings, on the other hand, are usually more targeted and less likely to go astray.
There is no room for personal matters in group meetings
The nature of most group meetings is such that no personal issues should be raised in them, while the personal issues of employees, their feelings, and concerns are important topics in 1:1 meetings.
